Blog Post #7

So I decided to look at my former high school's page. I went to one of my previous teacher's pages and it included a fair amount of information. It had his email, his education, his positions within the school such as head of the english department. It even had a fun fact that he likes mangoes. A bunch of these teacher pages are actually pretty thorough.

I think I would try to use canvas when teaching as it is a very efficient site when used properly. I think it is important to have a clear schedule of assignment and test dates, as well as frequent updates to remind students. There should be no reason for the students to say they didn't know something was due. I would really try to implement youtube, quizlet and kahoot in my lessons.

I really enjoyed the PBWorks platform. I think it was a good way to organize information and collaborate with others. I would certainly use this in my classroom. The only gripe I have is the display of the website looks like it was the first thing ever created on the internet. Like it was made before the internet itself. Primordial PBWorks.

My earliest experience with Twitter was when it seemed to be nothing but memes. Just good times. Now it's much more political and news oriented. It helps me today to keep updated on current events and keep up with friends as well. In the future I could use Twitter to network for my career.

I think the digital divide is one of the biggest disparities in schooling today. Students with less wealth are automatically at a disadvantage when technology comes into the curriculum. I'm definitely worried about how it will effect my classroom. But people were taught for thousands of years without technology, so how hard can it be to try and keep the lessons hands-on, without technology. And for the times when technology is necessary I can try and make sure everyone is included somehow.

One tool I'd like to add to my classroom would be twitter. It would be a more casual place to discuss the class and connect with classmates. Another good tool I would like to add is google classroom. That would help all around, helping students and teacher to be more organized, have clearer expectations and clearer work.

So the grade level I chose was 9th-10th grade. One standard was to determine the meaning of unknown words as well as words with multiple meanings. In order to meet this standard I would need to be proficient with online dictionaries and thesauri. I believe I am fit to meet this standard with my current skillset.

The resource I found is meant for teaching language arts to high schoolers. It is a lesson plan teaching the difference between passive and active voice in writing. It also shows the importance of active voice to liven up the writing. This would be very useful for me in the classroom to easily help students make their writing less boring.

I think it will be exceedingly crucial to be well versed in internet searching as a teacher. It would be a much harder job without the help of those online. I think the best resource from this week to me is the Educator Toolkit. Whenever I need a good outline on how to teach a lesson I can look there and build off of it.
