Data collection and surveys will be super helpful in gauging the classroom. As a high school teacher of language arts I can take surveys early in the year on what books they would prefer to read and choose the favorites. If conversation isn't sparking in class I can take a survey to try and find the problem. Data collection will be useful in just about any problem that may come up, because I'll be asking the students directly what's wrong.

Reading about my classmates' perspectives on distance learning was interesting. It's a new subject and everyone has different ideas on how to do it. I also liked looking at everyone's powerpoint lessons. It was nice to see into everyone's strategies in teaching a lesson.

I would like to know how to do some basic computer coding. I think it would be useful for the classroom in almost every way. For organization, creativity, fun ways of teaching. I could make programs that specifically cater to certain lessons, or games that help teach the lessons.

The distance learning experience has been consistently challenging. Many physical classroom conventions do not translate over to this form very well, such as presentations, speeches, group work. The only part that I like more about distance learning is having more freedom of schedule and more independence, but the lack of human connection makes it tough to stay motivated, so it's kind of a double-edged sword. If I ever deal with distance learning as a teacher I would try my best to understand the frustration of the students and just make the best out of the situation, because who can really prepare for something as unprecedented as a pandemic.

So Open Educational Resources are any materials, open to the public domain, which have to do with teaching, learning and research. They are malleable in that anyone can edit, revise, remix, have and give out to anyone. Basically just resources for anyone to help out anyone in the realm of teaching. Will be super helpful for the future career. Here is what seems to be one of the larger websites for OER's:

I enjoyed these assignments. The first one was more a review of what I already knew about powerpoint and the second one expanded my knowledge. I think both were super important to cement my understanding of powerpoint, which will be a crucial tool in teaching. Next time I will better mind map the non-linear powerpoint beforehand so that I will know where to send things from the start.

I really enjoyed this Web Design assignment. This opened my eyes to how easy and accessible website creation is. I will most certainly use this for my future career in education or in any career. The ease and clarity that Weebly supplied in creating a website was a window to a whole new world of opportunity in my professional and personal life.

Here's my website.

I think Diigo is an incredible thing. Seeing everyone's contributions and learning how to contribute my own stuff, I can see how this site will be useful for the future. For the students, this can be the hub where they can share useful resources in relation to the class. For teachers this will be a place to reinforce and update each other's practices to keep each other up to status.

A useful engine to keep up to date on educational technology would be the education subreddit on Reddit. There are discussions throughout every week about every sector of teaching even beyond the technology. Reddit also brings a sense of community and reinforcement to users so teachers will be there to help one another. I see this subreddit as one of the most helpful websites on the matter on education.
